provides mobility solutions
for disabled people.
The term “mobility difficulties” is not just related to people
who have difficulty with walking
or need to use a wheelchair. It also encompasses those who:
• Have to use medical devices like catheters and colostomies
• Suffer from a mental illness
• Have arthritis or other disabling aliment
• Find travelling alone on public transport difficult or
embarrassing
You don’t even have to hold a driving licence in order to
qualify for assistance. As long as you have someone that can be
a designated as your driver, if you receive higher-level care
from your carers in many cases you can also apply for an open
policy meaning that all of your carers have the ability to drive
the vehicle you choose.
Qualification is not affected by where you live, who else
lives at your address and does not entail disclosing your
personal finance position.
The higher rate mobility allowance in conjunction with the
disability living allowance is to aid personal mobility, which
can mean the provision of scooters, wheelchairs and vehicles
without costing you a penny!
Mobility allowance is not a means tested benefit.

and pay for a brand new car. They like the convenience of a
regular payment that
includes comprehensive insurance, maintenance and breakdown
cover.

can have the use of a private car

your door for your own
personal use to come and go as you please.

The Motability vehicle lease scheme is there to give the less
able of our society the opportunity
to have the use of both adapted and un-adapted vehicles for
personal use.
Currently there are more than 460,000 vehicles in use paid for
by the higher rate mobility component of the disability living
allowance.
